Writing an ebook takes time, we agree. But it is a project that we can carry on whenever we want, organizing the work as we are most comfortable depending on our personal commitments. Creating an ebook has costs, however, even if it is a job that can easily be done by anyone, with a little study and practice. But not everyone has certain skills, nor the desire, nor the time to do this job. However, having an ebook created has low costs . Layout is an expense that anyone can face, for the cover there are good solutions at very low costs. We are not talking about ebooks published by a publishing house: in that case the situation is completely different. #6 – Self-promotion We write to be read , right? There are no other reasons, let's be honest. If we write in a blog, it is because we want to have readers, we want to make others hear our voice.
If we write an ebook, the Special Data matter is the same. Writing an ebook allows us to self-promote. Any book, any publication is also promotion of the author and not only because his beautiful name is printed on the cover, but because it is the author's word that goes around, circulates among people. #7 – Freedom of writing When, many years ago, I wrote the guide to WordPress for beginners, I wanted to explain the use of WordPress in my own way, according to my personal point of view. I hadn't read any other guides on the topic, nor had I written any other guides before then. That was my ebook on WordPress – ok, it was a pdf, but ereaders weren't available at the time – it was my job, it was my idea of guidance, it was a training ebook created according to my ideas. What did I gain? Lots of links, meanwhile. Mentions in various blogs and forums. Thanks in private. And the ebook introduced in a training course.
Translated into one word: satisfaction . Why did I talk about this experience of mine? To make it clear that the ebook you write will be your ebook, the one in which you will be free to address the topic as you wish . The ebook, even if distributed via the blog, is separate from the blog, it is a publication in itself, it is not regulated by the editorial guidelines of your blog, but by others, "written" specifically. Update the ebook: release new editions Unless you have written a short story or novel, the published ebook needs to be updated . I had already talked about the update made to my guide to WordPress: the CMS changes constantly and what is valid today will no longer be useful tomorrow. This is a discussion that holds true in many contexts. If you write an ebook on social media marketing, will everything still be valid in five years? I would say no. It's just an example, but to make it clear that many topics are not evergreen, they have their expiry date and therefore need to be updated, renewed or even rewritten from scratch.
